BREAKING THE STIGMA BEHIND BV AND THRUSH

A significant portion of women experience vaginal health concerns such as bacterial vaginosis (BV) and thrush, with approximately 75% encountering thrush at some point in their lives.

Regrettably, discussions about vaginal health remain taboo, much like other issues pertaining to women's health. Moreover, conventional treatments, such as repeated courses of antibiotics, frequently prove ineffective in the long run.

What is bacterial vaginosis?

Essentially, BV arises from an imbalance in vaginal bacteria, where an overgrowth of 'bad' bacteria, known as anaerobes, overwhelms the 'good' bacteria, such as lactobacillus. This imbalance leads to a bacterial infection in the vagina. It's estimated that one in three women will experience BV at some stage in their lives.

Where does BV come from?

Using regular soap can exacerbate BV, making it essential to opt for a fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and chemical-free feminine wash. This choice aids in preserving pH balance, which not only prevents BV but also promotes overall vaginal health.

How does it spread?

Introducing a new sexual partner or multiple partners can also disrupt the bacterial balance, but it's crucial to understand that BV is not classified as a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

What are the symptoms of BV?

  • A fishy odor, particularly noticeable after sexual activity
  • Thin discharge, which can appear white, grey, or green
  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Irritation and/or itching

What is thrush?

Thrush, a yeast or fungal infection, occurs when there's an overgrowth of yeast, specifically the fungus candida albicans, in the vagina.

While this fungus typically coexists harmlessly in our bodies, it can multiply and lead to symptoms.

Thrush is highly prevalent, with approximately 75% of women encountering it during their lifetime.

What causes thrush? How does it spread?

Thrush can be triggered by various factors, such as hormonal fluctuations during menstruation and pregnancy, the use of certain antibiotics, incorrect wiping (back-to-front instead of front-to-back), and wearing tight synthetic pants or underwear.

Where should I store Boric Acid Suppositories?

Our Boric Acid Pops should be stored in a cool environment, preferably within a refrigerator to keep the natural, safe formulations cold prior to inserting within the vagina.

Why are antibiotics ineffective for treating recurring BV and Thrush?

  • ELIMINATION OF BENEFICIAL BACTERIA

Antibiotics kill both harmful and beneficial bacteria in the vagina, disrupting the natural balance and leaving it susceptible to reinfection by harmful bacteria.

  • RESISTANCE DEVELOPMENT

Overuse or improper use of antibiotics can lead to the development of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria, making subsequent infections harder to treat with standard antibiotic therapy.

  • FUNGAL OVERGROWTH

Antibiotics specifically target bacteria, not fungi. By reducing bacterial populations, they can create an environment where fungi, such as Candida (responsible for thrush), can thrive and overgrow.

what are boric acid suppositories? And how can they help with bv and thrush?

Boric acid suppositories are a treatment option for recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and Thrush, leveraging their antimicrobial and antifungal properties to combat infections.

By restoring the natural acidic pH of the vagina, they create an environment unfavorable for the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi.

Regular use can help maintain the balance of the vaginal microbiome, reducing the likelihood of recurring infections.
